A 26-year-old Newport News man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he eluded law enforcement and injured another driver in a crash.
Jamahl Bethea, 26, allegedly led police on a pursuit that started on I-295 at 9:36 a.m. Sunday and ended with a crash in Williamsburg , according to a Virginia State Police news release.
Virginia State Police have charged Bethea with felony eluding police, felony hit and run, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended license for the 18th time, reckless driving, no insurance, false identification to police, illegal window tint, and possession of marijuana, the news release said.
A Virginia State Police trooper in a marked state police car attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Bethea near mile marker 34 on I-295. The pursuit headed south and then onto I-64 eastbound, where Bethea crashed into another vehicle around mile marker 239, according to police.
Bethea was arrested and transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail where he is being held without bond, the release said.
The driver of the vehicle Bethea hit near mile marker 239 was transported to Riverside Hospital with minor injuries. No law enforcement were injured, according to the news release.
Virginia State Police are investigating the pursuit, the release said.
