A man wanted for sexually assaulting a York County woman in her sleep has been located in Oklahoma, police said.
Justin Harris, 29, has been extradited from Oklahoma back to Virginia and was formally charged with forcible sodomy and burglary Jan. 25, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Dennis Ivey.
Police responded to a residence in the 2800 block of Old Williamsburg Road Nov. 9 for a report of a sexual assault, Ivey said.
After investigating, police determined a man, believed to be Harris, entered the home after a party while the woman was asleep, and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Harris has ties to York County and Gloucester, police said. He also has no criminal record in York County or Williamsburg-James City County, according to circuit and general district court case records. He is not listed in the Virginia State Police sex offender registry.
Harris appeared in the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Jan. 26 for arraignment and Williamsburg attorney Michael Hyman was appointed to represent him.
Hyman was out of the office when contacted for comment Tuesday afternoon.
He is scheduled to appear again in court March 27 at 1:30 p.m.
