Police are investigating after a Kiln Creek Pizza Hut employee allegedly attempted to break into a claw machine containing stuffed animals while an accomplice covered a restaurant security camera.
York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a York County Pizza Hut, located at 5003 Victory Boulevard, at 11:24 p.m. Jan. 16 in response to a call about an attempted theft from a claw machine, sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Dennis Ivey said.
When deputies arrived, they talked with several people in the restaurant parking lot. When questioned, one of them admitted to unsuccessfully attempting to break into a “Toy Shoppe” claw machine inside the restaurant, Ivey said.
Police believe an 18 year old female, a 26-year-old male, a 25-year-old male and a 29-year-old male are involved in the alleged theft. At least one is an employee of the Pizza Hut store, Ivey said.
The incident was listed as “larceny from coin-op machine or device” in the sheriff’s office weekly crime report.
The case is ongoing while sheriff’s office investigators wait to see if the private company that owns the claw machine wants to press charges. The claw machine is not owned by Pizza Hut.
