Emergency first responders and police from municipalities across Hampton Roads will be convening at Busch Gardens for a regional training exercise Wednesday.

According to a press release from James City County, the exercise is not designed as a counter to any current threat or specific security concerns.

Instead, the exercise is intended to serve as an opportunity for the various parties to practice coordination and promote emergency preparedness.

Stephanie Williams, a spokesperson for the James City County Police Department, said that participating departments include Newport News Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and Police, York County Fire, EMS and Sheriff, Virginia State Police, the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office, and James City County’s Fire and Police Department.

The exercise is scheduled to begin around 8 a.m. and the public may see law enforcement and first responder activity at Busch Gardens.
