Accident closes both southbound lanes of Route 17

UPDATE Thursday at noon: The road is back open, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both southbound lanes on George Washington Memorial Highway/Route 17 are closed due to a Virginia State Police accident investigation, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

The accident is near the railroad tracks, the post said, which are located in the 7600 block of Route 17, between Fort Eustis Boulevard and Denbigh Boulevard.

According to state police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya, the accident was a single-vehicle accident with no injuries.
