The City of Williamsburg unveiled a new website Thursday afternoon.
According to a press release from the city, the new site maintains the same web address as the previous website but features interactive tools, improved navigation and a cosmetic redesign.
“Our website is the first impression many people have of our city,” City Manager Marvin Collins said in the release. “It also is the portal that allows citizens to connect with local government from any location, at any time of the day or night. Our site is one of the most powerful tools we have to keep citizens engaged and informed, which is why this redesign is integral to our overall communications strategy.”
Some new features listed in the release include a “mega-menu” and a prominent search box for ease of navigation, a searchable calendar of city events and meeting that is sortable by department, detailed facility and employee directories, the ability to sign up for e-notifications, and buttons for quick navigation to frequently visited pages.
The site also features two new tabs, “Services” and “I want to.” The redesign adjusts resolution to fit smartphone, computer and tablet screens.
The new website was developed in conjunction with Vision Internet, who are listed in the release as “online government experts.” According to Vision Internet’s Website, their technology and services allow governments to create and operate successful websites.
“The City of Williamsburg’s forward-thinking government has created a powerful website that not only caters directly to citizens’ needs, but to the needs of business owners, developers, investors, elected officials and City employees,” said Ashley Fruechting, Vision Internet’s Director of Strategic Initiatives. “The new site engages citizens, provides information that builds trust, and delivers information when, where and in whatever format citizens want it.”
The website is now active and offers a survey for residents to provide their feedback.
