Businesses and nonprofits on the Virginia Peninsula: Grab your notebooks and a pen.
Companies small and large will have a chance to learn how to increase employee engagement with local nonprofits and giving campaigns during a forum Thursday, according to a NetworkPeninsula news release.
The forum, sponsored by NetworkPeninsula, a nonprofit organization that provides support to over 220 nonprofits across the Virginia Peninsula, will equip businesses of all sizes with strategies and tools to encourage employee engagement with community issues, the release said.
The event will be held at Legacy Hall in Williamsburg, located at 4301 New Town Avenue.
The forum’s keynote speaker will be Kimberly Young, vice president of America’s Charities. During the presentation, she will discuss the results and impact of her organization’s most recent report, “The New Corporate DNA: Where Employee Engagement and Social Impact Converge,” the release said.
Young will give suggestions tailored to both businesses and nonprofits, including how nonprofits can better engage with companies seeking to improve their employee involvement, the release said.
“According to the report, there has been a dramatic shift in employee engagement in small to medium-size companies,” said Karen Dutro, executive director of NetworkPeninsula, “That’s why we believe this is an important topic for both business and nonprofit leaders.”
The report indicates the rising number of millennials and other employees seeking jobs that offer opportunities to engage in their communities, and employers that support those opportunities, the release said.
“Two years ago, one-third [38 percent] of companies indicated they were moving beyond fall campaigns to year-round giving,” the report said. “Today, almost two-thirds [60 percent] say they now offer year-round opportunities for employees to give.”
The forum will be moderated by Terry Shannon, executive director of the Executive Partners Program in the Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary.
Following the keynote, there will be a round table discussion and a question and answer period to apply the strategies to each company or nonprofit.
NetworkPeninsula’s annual impact forums bring together nonprofit leaders, community leaders and senior-level decision makers from the public and private sectors to discuss emerging issues in the region, the release said.
Last year, more than 70 people from across the Peninsula attended the forum.
