A fire that broke out in the Ramada Williamsburg hotel early Friday morning is being considered an act of arson, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dennis Ivey.

Now police are seeking to identify a suspect or suspects in the fire, which started around 4:20 a.m. in three different areas of the hotel, Ivey said.

The hotel is located in the 500 block of Merrimac Trail in York County and is near Busch Gardens.

With the help of hotel sprinklers, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the conference rooms where the fire originated, although smoke did damage other parts of the hotel, Ivey confirmed.

First responders from Williamsburg and James City County responded to assist with the fire, Ivey said.
