A court appearance of former Williamsburg mayor Clyde Haulman slated for Friday morning has been continued until Dec. 9.
Haulman was charged with misdemeanor Assault and Battery after an altercation in March.
The complainant, Gary Shelley, charged that Haulman — who was mayor at the time — grabbed his tie and yanked it back and forth after a city council meeting. Shelley, who is a landlord, had spoken during the meeting’s open forum and called Haulman dishonest.
According to Gloucester Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney and special prosecutor for the case Megan Zwisohn, Haulman had prepaid for a vacation before his attorney provided him with the scheduled date of his court appearance.
“We allowed the continuance out of the goodness of our hearts,” said Zwisohn.
