Back by popular demand, the James City County Police Department will be offering free firearm safety classes to the public during August and September.

According to a news release from the county, each one session class will cover basic safety, handling, storage and basic laws related to carrying a concealed handgun in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The class will not include hands-on training and the JCCPD states that personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location.

This course meets the requirement for the “Documentation of Proof of Handgun Competency” as part of the Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit application process, and a certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees.
