James City County, in partnership with the Virginia Black Storytellers, is hosting Freedom Stories at Freedom Park on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.

Freedom Park, the site of the earliest free black settlement dating to the 1800s, will be the backdrop for the event, which shines a light on the history of the settlement and those who resided there.

Led by Williamsburg native Dylan Pritchett, aptly nicknamed “The Storyteller” and other Virginia Black Storytellers, attendees will get a glimpse into the black experience during the early days of America.

In addition to storytelling and music from traditional African drums, crafts for children will be provided. Food will be available for purchase for those hungering for more than history.

No pre-registration is required for the event, which is free and open to the public. Freedom Park is located at 5537 Centerville Road in Williamsburg. For more information about the event, call 757-259-4200.
