Authorities seek dog that bit person near Yorktown store

virginia department of healthThe Peninsula Health District is looking for dog that bit a person in the vicinity of the Yorktown Wawa Food Market and Convenience Store at 5824 George Washington Memorial Highway.

The dog is described as a tan-and-white pit bull wearing a collar.

Since the dog’s rabies status is unknown, the victim may have to undergo post-exposure treatment, including shots for the prevention of rabies, if the dog is not found.

Once found, the dog will not be taken away from its owner. But it will be placed on in-home confinement for 10 ten days.

Anyone who has seen an dog that fits this description in this area is asked to contact the Peninsula Health District – Newport News Environmental Health office at 757-594-7340.
