Salvation Army chapter appoints new board members

The Salvation Army of the Virginia Peninsula recently announced the appointment of Alvin Whitlow and John Gately to the organization’s advisory board.

Whitlow, of Hampton, is the director of business management for Newport News Shipbuilding, where he began working in 1978.

He is a graduate of Virginia Tech and he and his wife, Debra, are actively involved with Sixth Mount Zion Church.

Gately, also of Hampton, retired from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Colonel in 1994. After his military career, he worked in the private sector for several years.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, Gately and his wife, Sandy, have a lengthy history of service with faith-based organizations.

The Salvation Army of the Virginia Peninsula, which serves Hampton, Newport News, York, Poquoson and Gloucester, expressed it’s pleasure in welcoming both new members to the board.
