The final defendant in the armed burglary of a York County home pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit robbery in York-Poquoson Circuit Court Tuesday.
Charles Elliot Brooks, 28, was originally slated to go to trial in July but entered into a plea agreement with the prosecution Tuesday that dropped four of five charges against him in exchange for his past and future cooperation against his co-defendants in the case.
Brooks, who had already testified against two of his co-defendants at their preliminary hearings, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery at Tuesday’s hearing, while the prosecution dropped charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, attempted robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony against him.
Brooks’ sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 12.
Willie Bernard Rose, Sylvester Edward Langley, Kaniqua Shaquan Perrin and a 16-year-old juvenile who is not being named due to his age were also arrested in connection with the incident.
The five co-defendants arrived at a home on the 1100 bock of Wilkins Drive in York County in the early morning hours of July 14. They intended to rob the occupants, one of whom had a pre-existing relationship with Rose, of money and possibly drugs, according to court records.
Langley and the juvenile suspect entered the home through the unlocked front door around 12:20 a.m. Both suspects were armed and had their faces covered at the time.
While Langley and the juvenile entered through the front door, Perrin and Rose unsuccessfully tried to enter the home through a back door. Brooks remained in the car throughout the incident.
When Langley and the juvenile were confronted by one of the residents a commotion ensued, causing all four intruders on the property to flee.
A tip the next day led officers to Rose, Langley, Brooks and the juvenile, who were in a car parked in the lot of the York-Poquoson Courthouse. Perrin, was later arrested at her residence.
Brooks’ plea agreement came on the heels of Langley opting out of a scheduled jury trial in order to enter into his own plea agreement late last month.
Langley pleaded guilty to burglary, attempted robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony at an April 21 hearing, at which time he was sentenced to 43 years in prison with 35 years suspended.
Both of the other adult co-defendants have also already entered pleas. Rose pleaded guilty to burglary, attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit a burglary in March and was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 15 years suspended. Perrin pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and is still awaiting sentencing.
