City Council Election 2016: A Guide to Today’s Election

electionToday is Election Day for City of Williamsburg residents, who will be casting their ballots to fill three seats on City Council.

Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. To find your polling place and see which races are on your ballot, click here.

Voters can find information specific to them — including their voting district, their precinct and more — on the City of Williamsburg’s Voter Registrar site.

Registration for Tuesday’s election ended April 11. Any eligible voter who signed up before that date may participate in the election.

City Council Candidates

Five candidates are vying for three seats on City Council. The winners would begin their four-year terms July 1.

Vice Mayor Paul Freiling is the only incumbent in the race, seeking his fourth term. He faces newcomers Greg Granger, Elaine McBeth, Barbara Ramsey and Benming “Benny” Zhang.

WYDaily sat down with each of the candidates for profiles ahead of the election, and the candidates filled out identical questionnaires to help citizens become more familiar with their stances on various issues.
