Historic Triangle Democratic Committees Seek Delegates

electionDemocratic committees in James City County and the City of Williamsburg are looking for delegates to represent the party’s congressional and presidential interests during the district and state conventions.

The James City County Democratic Committee will host an assembled caucus at 7:30 p.m. April 18 at 2824 Linden Lane in Williamsburg.

During the caucus, party members will elect 14 delegates and seven alternates to attend the 1st Congressional District Convention in Fredericksburg on May 21, where they will nominate a candidate for U.S. Congress.

Party members will also elect delegates to the State Convention, which will take place June 18 in Richmond.

Based on the results of the March 1 primary, the JCC committee can send 12 delegates and three alternates for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and seven delegates and two alternates for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vermont).

Individuals interested in serving as a delegate or an alternate must pre-file by submitting a form by email or mail. Forms must be received by 5 p.m. April 11. Click here for more information.

The Williamsburg Democratic Committee will host an assembled caucus at 7:30 p.m. April 18 at Del. Monty Mason’s office, located at 120 Monticello Avenue, Suite 102 in Williamsburg.

Party members will elect four delegates and one alternate to attend the May 21 1st Congressional District Convention and the June 18 State Convention. Based on the results of the March 1 primary, the Williamsburg committee can send two delegates for Clinton, two delegates for Sanders and an alternate who could fill in for a Clinton or Sanders delegate.

Individuals interested in being a delegate or an alternate must submit a pre-filing form to Mary Cottrill, chairwoman of the Williamsburg Democratic Committee, no later than 5 p.m. April 11. Pre-filing forms may be requested by sending an email to marycottrill@hotmail.com.

The York Poquoson Democratic Committee will host an assembled caucus at noon April 16 at the Yorktown Library, located at 8500 George Washington Memorial Highway.

Party members will elect 17 delegates and five alternates to attend the May 21 1st Congressional District Convention and the June 18 State Convention. Based on the results of the March 1 primary, the committee can send 10 delegates and two alternates for Clinton and seven delegates and three alternates for Sanders.
