A memorial service for York County School Board Member Page Minter, who died Monday, will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Grafton High School, according to Amory Funeral Home.
The service will be in the auditorium at the high school, and memorials may be made to the New Horizons Regional Education Center at 520 Butler Farm Road in Hampton.
Minter, 69, represented District 4 on the York County School Board for more than 20 years, elected to his first term in 1995. He was recently elected to a sixth term in November.
“He was a kind, caring and respected leader as well as a treasured friend,” Superintendent Victor Shandor said in a Facebook post from the school division announcing his death Tuesday.
In addition to his role on the York County School Board, he served on the New Horizons Regional Education Center Board of Trustees for 18 years, including 16 years as chair.
This past year, he was inducted into the Virginia Career and Technical Education Hall of Fame for his outstanding leadership and service.
Minter first came to the Peninsula in 1967 to work at the Newport News Shipyard but left 10 years later to take a job in Alabama. He and his family returned to the Shipyard in 1987 and moved to Dare, choosing to settle in York County because of the schools.
