Barn Catches Fire in James City County

An unoccupied barn caught fire in James City County on Tuesday night.

Firefighters from the James City County Fire Department were called to the 3500 block of Brick Bat Road at 8:42 p.m., and arrived five minutes later to find a “large” barn fully involved in fire, according to a news release from the county.

Crews began defensive operations and extinguished the blaze from the outside to prevent its spread to nearby farm equipment.

Because the barn is in a remote location, water was shuttled from hydrants in nearby areas.

The fire was under control by 9:46 p.m. The barn is a total loss, JCC Chief Ryan Ashe said.

The barn was not operational, no residences were affected and no one was injured.

Eight units from both JCC and York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
