The Winter Blues Jazz Fest is celebrating an award from the Virginia Tourism Corporation to the tune of $5,000.

The music event, which returned for a second year in January, is the recipient of a grant from the VTC Marketing Leverage Program. The goal of the program is to fund initiatives that help increase visitation and revenue for Virginia’s localities through tourism.

The award will go toward reimbursing expenses from the 2016 fest, said Jennifer Raines, owner of Quirks of Art and a co-founder of the event. Raines, Steve Rose of Williamsburg Event Rentals and Chef David Everett of Blue Talon Bistro came together to create the event.

Partners for the fest included Williamsburg Event Rentals, DoG Street Pub, the Muscarelle Museum, Williamsburg Winery, and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance.

“The grant for the Winter Blues Jazz Fest allowed for additional marketing to grow awareness for this amazing weekend in Williamsburg,” Karen Riordan, Alliance president and CEO, said in a statement. “The event was a major success and we look forward to continuing to work with the event organizers, the City of Williamsburg and the Virginia Tourism Corporation to grow awareness and visitation to our amazing region.”

The third annual Winter Blues Jazz Fest will take place Jan. 12 through Jan. 15, 2017. For more information, visit www.winterbluesjazzfest.com.
