A total reconstruction of an access road to the Colonial Parkway will warrant a detour for motorists looking to access the 23-mile Colonial Parkway from Water Street in Yorktown.

Fusiliers Road will be closed for about three weeks, starting Monday through April 8, according to a news release from the Colonial National Historical Park.

The French Monument and overlook areas will be closed to public use.

Fusiliers Road serves as the access ramp from Water Street, in front of the Victory Center, to the Colonial Parkway.

Motorists should follow the posted detour signs. In particular, southbound traffic on Route 17 wishing to access the Parkway toward Cheatham Annex and Williamsburg should not exit at Matthews Street but should continue to the marked Parkway exit instead.

Fusiliers Road will be closed for total reconstruction, widening and a minor realignment of the curve to better accommodate traffic flow. The surface will be chip sealed to restore its historic appearance.
