The free Yorktown Trolley will begin its 16th year of service Friday, operating daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 30.
There will be extended hours, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, according to a news release from York County.
The mahogany and brass-trimmed trolleys carry an old-world feel but are equipped with modern amenities, such as air conditioning and TVs.
The trolleys are also ADA-compliant with wheelchair access and a talking bus stop announcement system to accommodate both the hearing and visually impaired.
The county operates three trolleys purchased primarily with state and federal grant money.
Each trolley can transport up to 28 seated and 19 standing passengers at a time. The trolley transports nearly 90,000 passengers throughout Yorktown during its operation season, providing convenience to visitors.
Visitors can ride in the free air-conditioned trolleys during peak times in the summer months and during events at the waterfront.
The trolley route begins at the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center and makes stops at the Victory Monument, Historic Main Street, Riverwalk Landing and the Watermen’s Museum among others, on its way to the Yorktown Victory Center. The trolley’s circuitous route is about 20 to 25 minutes long.
