Original: The National Weather Service is forecasting potentially dangerous thunderstorms and watching for tornadoes in the Historic Triangle beginning this afternoon.
At 1:45 p.m. the National Weather Service announced a tornado watch for several Virginia counties and cities, including the City of Williamsburg and York and James City Counties. The watch is in effect until 9 p.m.
Shortly before noon the National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for areas in northeast North Carolina up to through the Piedmont of central Virginia.
The entire Historic Triangle is included in the outlook, which warns of a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
The primary threat is damaging winds. Locally heavy rainfall and an isolated tornado are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
