Original Story: With up to 3 inches of snow expected to begin accumulating mid-morning Friday, York County School Division, Williamsburg-James City County Schools and Williamsburg Christian Academy have announced an early dismissal.
Bruton, Grafton, Tabb and York high schools will dismiss at 11:20 a.m. All middle schools and York River Academy will dismiss at noon. All elementary schools will dismiss at 1 p.m.
For WJCC Schools, high schools and Toano Middle School will dismiss at 11 a.m. Berkeley and Hornsby middle schools will release at noon. D.J. Montague, James River and Stonehouse elementary schools will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. All other elementary schools will release at 1 p.m.
Preschool classes and all after-school and evening activities are canceled in both school divisions.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for York County and other localities in the lower Peninsula and Southside.
The advisory will be in effect from 7 a.m. Friday to noon Saturday.
Though some snowfall is expected in the City of Williamsburg and James City County, the advisory – which means snow is likely to affect travel and visibility – does not currently include the two localities.
Snowfall will begin around 10 a.m. and continue until about 7 p.m. With temperatures dropping from the low 30s to mid 20s by Friday evening, NWS expects the evening commute to be hazardous for drivers.
