Three out of four charges against a woman involved in a York County home invasion were dropped in York-Poquoson Circuit Court on Thursday.
Kaniqua Shaquan Perrin, 24, entered into a plea agreement with the prosecution regarding her role in an attempted robbery that took place in the early morning hours of July 14 at a home on the 1100 block of Wilkins Drive.
Originally charged with one count each of burglary, attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Perrin agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery in exchange for having the other three charges dropped.
Willie Bernard Rose, Sylvester Edward Langley, Charles Elliot Brooks and a 16-year-old juvenile who is not being named due to his age were also arrested in connection with the incident.
Langley and the juvenile suspect allegedly entered the home through the unlocked front door around 12:20 a.m. July 14, according to court records. Both suspects were armed and had their faces covered at the time.
A minor who lived at the home met the two intruders at the door and then ran to alert other members of the household.
An adult resident heard the commotion outside his bedroom and opened the door, seeing the two intruders armed with guns. The intruders turned to face the resident and pointed their weapons at him, at which point he slammed the door shut. The foot of one of the intruders became stuck in the door. The adult resident opened the door a small amount, and the two intruders fled from the home without taking anything.
During the incident, Perrin and Rose are believed to have unsuccessfully attempted to enter the home through the back door while Brooks waited outside in the car.
When deputies were called to the scene a short time after the intruders fled, Rose was identified as a potential suspect by the minor resident of the home because of a recent incident between the two.
The day after the attempted robbery, an informant came forward to the York-Poquoson Sheriffs Office with information on the incident only suspects and victims would know that led to the identification of Rose, Brooks, Langley and the juvenile, according to the criminal complaint.
Rose, Langley, Brooks and the juvenile were approached by a police officer in the parking lot of the York-Poquoson Courthouse later that day. All four were taken into custody and each of them confessed to being involved in the attempted robbery. They also implicated Perrin in their confessions, and she was arrested at her home later that day.
Rose, Brooks, Langley and the juvenile were all charged with burglary, attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Rose, Brooks and Langley were also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
As part of her plea agreement, Perrin also agreed to fully cooperate with law enforcement and the prosecution in building a case against her co-defendants, for whom trials are still pending.
In addition to providing investigators with information, Perrin may be asked to take the stand and testify against the other four suspects.
Perrin’s sentencing is set for April 12, and prosecutors have agreed not to ask the court to exceed the high end of the sentencing guidelines in her case. She faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
Langley’s trial is set for Feb. 25; Brooks’ is March 8; Rose’s is March 24.
