The Heritage Commons independent living community in York County is officially under new management.
Charlottesville-based Commonwealth Assisted Living (CAL), one of the largest senior living providers in Virginia, announced the purchase of Heritage Commons on Tuesday.
Commonwealth Assisted Living purchased Heritage Commons from the Virginia Housing Development Authority for an undisclosed amount.
Built in 2009, Heritage Commons includes 100 senior apartments, a fitness center, club room, multiple lounges, 24-hour concierge service, an on-site hair salon and more.
Heritage Commons is the first CAL community in the Williamsburg area and could pave the way for future sites to be acquired in the Historic Triangle.
“We’re excited to welcome Heritage Commons to the CAL family,” Richard Brewer, president and CEO of CAL, said in a news release. “This community already offers exceptional hospitality and we look forward to adding new services to ensure that Heritage Commons can meet the evolving needs of its residents.”
With CAL’s acquisition of Heritage Commons, residents of the community can expect to see expanded services in the future.
CAL plans to expand care offerings at Heritage Commons to include assisted living and memory care, as well as renovations to the campus. The renovations are scheduled to begin mid-to-late March and should be completed by the end of the year.
Once the renovations are complete, Heritage Commons will be able to accommodate 24 residents into its memory-care program and 45 residents into assisted living.
CAL’s memory-care program, Sweet Memories, provides specialized assistance to residents dealing with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. The CAL assisted living program places a premium on resident independence, all while making sure residents know personal care and support services are available when needed.
