A woman died in a two-vehicle crash near Monticello Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Nena Lopez Abernathy, a 63-year-old James City County woman, died in a crash on Windsormeade Way near the 4800 block of Monticello Avenue.
Abernathy was driving a 1991 Honda Prelude near Martin’s Gas Station and heading toward the WindsorMeade Marketplace, where PetSmart is located, before 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the James City County Police Department. She stopped at the stop sign before crossing Windsormeade Way.
As she crossed Windsormeade Way, a 2000 Toyota pick-up truck headed toward Monticello Avenue struck the Honda in the driver’s side door, police said.
An ambulance transported Abernathy to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the pick-up truck, an 80-year-old James City County man, was not injured.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and speed was not a factor, police said. Charges are not expected.
The crash remains under investigation.
