After nearly seven months as James City County’s attorney, Michelle Gowdy has resigned for a position with the Virginia Municipal League.
“It truly has been a joy to work in James City County; the employees here are extremely dedicated and care about their community,” Gowdy said in a statement to WYDaily.
Gowdy, who began her tenure with the county June 1 following the departure of longtime County Attorney Leo Rogers, will serve in the role through Wednesday.
“It’s a great opportunity for her and we wish her the best in her new position,” said Jody Puckett, spokesperson for the county. “We look forward to having her help us at VML.”
Assistant County Administrator Adam Kinsman, who has previously served in the interim role and as an assistant county attorney, will again fill the role until a new county attorney is hired.
Two assistant county attorneys – Max Hlavin and Allie Kotula – also work in that department.
