Residents can learn more about a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Centerville and News roads and share their thoughts on the project’s design during a public hearing Wednesday evening.
The hearing will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at Matoaka Elementary School, located at 4001 Brick Bat Road in Williamsburg.
In an email to WYDaily, Brittany McBride Nichols, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said the intersection is being reconfigured to improve safety and capacity at Centerville and News roads.
A roundabout was found to meet this objective as well as improve the operational conditions at the intersection, she wrote.
The project is estimated to cost $1.47 million to construct. Work is expected to begin in June 2017 and conclude the following summer.
Residents who cannot attend the public hearing can submit their comments orally or in writing to VDOT until Dec. 28. Written comments should be addressed to Mr. Brandon Harrison, P.E., Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 1700 North Main Street, Suffolk, Va., 23434.
