Cheryl and Pam Paisley, co-owners of Paisley Gifts in New Town, spent nearly 30 minutes helping customers with their purchases past the store’s closing time of 6 p.m. Monday.

Paisley Gifts has built a loyal customer base over the past nine years of business at 5138 Main St. because of the warm atmosphere and unique clothing, jewelry and other accessories.

This commitment to their customers is part of what has made the past week for Cheryl and Pam Paisley, both of whom have hour-long commutes to and from the store every day, so difficult after announcing the closing of Paisley Gifts last Thursday on the store’s Facebook page.

“Our lease is up in January and right now we don’t have a place that’s a good fit for our business to go to,” Cheryl Paisley told WYDaily. “We’re not leaving here because of a negative response to New Town. We’re leaving because we have to.”

While the Paisley sisters spoke about the store’s closing while trying to hold back tears, they both also gushed about their customers and fans who have been loyal to the store for years.

Since announcing the closing of Paisley, customers and community members have sent Facebook messages, phone calls and emails of support to the Paisley sisters. On occasion, longtime customers have even stopped by just to provide much-needed hugs.

“Our customers are incredible,” Cheryl Paisley said. “It’s hard to walk out that door, but the comments we’ve gotten from everybody has brightened us and our staff. It lets us know we delivered a good product.”

As a final sign of appreciation to the customers who have kept Paisley thriving for so long, the store is offering 25 percent off every product in the store.

The reception to the sale has been overwhelming for the Paisley sisters, who have been forced to stay open past typical closing hours just to handle the influx of business.

“We’ve always tried to be good to our customers because they’ve been good to us,” Pam Paisley said of the motivation behind the sale.

While the Paisley sisters hope to one day hope to have another space to call their own — they said they are looking diligently for a new location that fits their needs — neither sister could confirm exactly what the future holds for Paisley.

Instead, the Paisley co-owners are spending what time they have left in the store helping and showing appreciation to their customers — something that has been a staple of Paisley Gifts for nearly a decade.

“We thank [our customers] to the bottom of our hearts,” Cheryl Paisley said. “We’re extremely blessed with the customers. Some of our customers didn’t have babies when we opened and now their kids are in grade school. We know them on a personal level and it’s very heartwarming.”
