Fire Officials: Woman Rescued After Jumping Off Coleman Bridge

Coleman BridgeA woman was rescued from the York River after several people reported seeing her drifting downriver Monday morning.

Emergency personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to a call for a “water rescue” shortly before 11 a.m. to save a woman who jumped from the Coleman Bridge into the York River.

A little after 11 a.m., the woman had been rescued and taken to the Yorktown Riverwalk piers, where medical units attended to her.

A news release from York County said the response effort included Fire and Life Safety personnel, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, the York County Emergency Communications Center, the Coleman Bridge staff, Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office, Abingdon Fire/Rescue and the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
