Fort Eustis Exit to Be Closed for Interstate 64 Widening Work

I64 wideningDrivers can expect single-lane and exit closures during overnight hours this week as work continues to widen Interstate 64.

The Fort Eustis (exit 250) on- and off-ramps will be closed, with a detour in place, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Friday morning. Single-lane closures will occur in both directions between Lee Hall (exit 247) and Jefferson Avenue (exit 255) during the same time period.

Virginia Department of Transportation crews will be conducting paving operations related to the widening.

VDOT said the work is dependent upon the weather.

The first phase of the widening project – projected to cost about $122 million – will add one lane and one shoulder in each direction for the 5.6 miles between Jefferson Avenue in Newport News and Route 143 in York County (exit 247).

The first phase is slated for completion in December 2017.

The entire I-64 widening, which will happen in three phases, will stretch to the second Route 199 interchange in York County (exit 234).

VDOT maintains a page on its website with updated information on the widening.
