Residents will have a chance to tell officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers what they think of the proposed Surry-Skiffes Creek-Whealton power line at a public hearing on Friday.
The hearing will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 30 at Lafayette High School, located at 4460 Longhill Road in Williamsburg.
The Army Corps is reviewing an application from Dominion Virginia Power for permission to build the project, which would include transmission lines crossing over the James River to connect the Surry Switching Station the proposed Skiffes Creek Switching Station in James City County.
From 5 to 6 p.m., representatives from Dominion will be available at the school to provide general information and answer questions about the project.
Residents who wish to comment must register to speak when they sign in at the hearing. Commenters will be limited to two minutes for a verbal comment. Organizations that wish to make a comment at the hearing are encouraged to identify a representative to speak for the whole.
For residents who cannot attend, written comments will be accepted for 10 days after the hearing.
In a news release, the Army Corps indicated the comments will be “considered fully” in the permit evaluation and will inform the National Environmental Policy Act analysis and documentation.
