A 79-year-old man and his 77-year-old wife were found dead in their Richmond Road home Thursday morning, police said.

James Edward Kite and Audrey Lily Boyle were found dead in their residence Thursday morning. James City County Police are investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide, Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said.

Investigators are on scene on the 9100 block of Richmond Road in Toano, where a relative of the married couple found them dead inside the home Thursday.

Police received the call around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Both Kite and Boyle appear to have died of gunshot wounds, Rubino said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Kite shot his wife in the kitchen area of the home and then went into the garage and shot himself. Both victims have been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond and the investigation is ongoing.
