Three juveniles are facing arson charges in connection with a fire that destroyed two boats at the First Colony Beach and Marina earlier this week.
The James City County Fire Marshals issued the charges Thursday. All three, who are from James City County, are being detained in the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center.
On Monday, units from the James City County Fire Department arrived at the First Colony Beach and Marina around 5:49 a.m. – seven minutes after receiving the call – to find two docked boats on fire, Assistant Chief Miles Pettengell said.
The fire had spread to the adjacent brush, Pettengell said. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze by 5:55 a.m., preventing it from reaching a detached garage nearby.
Two boats, a 16-foot sailboat and a 23-foot pleasure boat, were complete losses and three boats had scorch burns.
