YCSD Makes Internal Hire for New Tabb Middle Principal

YCSD_SealTabb Middle School will be under new leadership for the 2015-16 school year.

The York County School Board approved the appointment of Heather Young as the school’s principal, effective immediately.

Young replaces Dr. Antonia Fox, who left YCSD to accept a position with Portsmouth Public Schools as director of curriculum and instruction.

“I’d like to thank our staff and parents for their participation and feedback throughout the selection process,” YCSD Superintendent Victor Shandor said in a news release. “We will plan an opportunity for the community to meet with Mrs. Young and will let you know as soon as that event is set.”

Young joined York County schools in 2008 as a teacher, and taught at Coventry and Mt. Vernon elementary schools. In 2011, Young was named teacher of the year at Mt. Vernon.

Young has also served as an assessment and compliance coordinator with the school division and as assistant principal at Grafton Bethel Elementary. Her most recent position was as the division’s coordinator of licensed staff development.

Young received a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota, and a master’s degree in educational policy, planning and leadership from the College of William & Mary.

In addition to Young at Tabb, three schools in YCSD will begin the school year with new principals: Shannon Butler at York High School, Kelly Denny at Yorktown Elementary School and Arletha Dockery at Bruton High School.

The first day of classes for the 2015-2016 school year is Sept. 8.
