The York County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to name John F. Biagas to the county’s Economic Development Authority.
Biagas is the president and CEO of Bay Electric Co. in Newport News. The EDA is tasked with recruiting businesses, encouraging them to expand and keeping them in the county. It also issues bonds and buys and sells real estate to further those goals.
The appointment comes days after Biagas was named to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s board of directors. The York County resident is also on boards for An Achievable Dream, Boys and Girls Club, Virginia Apprenticeship Council, the York Foundation for Public Education and Eastern Virginia Bank.
He is also on the Board of Directors and Corporate Leadership Advisory boards for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Visitors for Old Dominion University. He is a sounding member of the Virginia Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization and continues to be active on its board of directors.
Biagas joins Thomas E. Anderson, Bradley E. Berrane, H.J. Coxton, Vernard E. Lockwood, II, R. Anderson Moberg and Harvey E. Weinstein on the EDA.
