Historic Triangle Under Heat Advisory

James City County opened cooling centers at the county’s recreation center and the Williamsburg Regional Library in response to blistering temperatures expected to stick around through today.

The heat index was expected to reach as high as 108 Monday, while it is projected to hit up to 100 degrees Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Monday and has another one in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The James City County Recreation Center, the Williamsburg Regional Library and the James City County Library are all open as cooling centers during their normal hours. The recreation center is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 am. to 8 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The libraries are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The cooling centers may be used for free.

NWS predicts the hot weather to taper later in the week. By Wednesday, the high will fall to 88 degrees. The high will hover in the mid 80s for the rest of the week, with a chance of thunderstorms Friday.
