A federal agency has stepped in to help the Williamsburg Police Department find and arrest the man suspected of abducting two people and forcing them to withdraw money from ATMs earlier this month.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a $3,000 reward to anyone who can provide a tip that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
“The ATF decided to offer their assistance in capturing this individual by offering this particular award to help get a violent individual off the streets,” said Maj. Greg Riley, a spokesperson for the Williamsburg Police.
It is the first time ATF has helped the city department to offer a reward.
A man and woman reported a man abducted them at gunpoint from a parking lot off Francis and West Duke of Gloucester streets around 10 p.m. July 1 and forced to withdraw money from several ATMs in the area.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s who is about 5-foot-9. He was wearing all black and a mask the night of the incident.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility this incident is connected with two recent gunpoint robberies in the area – one at Terrace Grocery in Upper York County and one at the Langley Federal Credit Union in the city.
