Two newcomers are joining the College of William & Mary’s Board of Visitors.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe appointed Karen Kennedy Schultz and James A. Hixon to the board, which oversees financial and operational issues at the college.
Current BOV members Todd A. Stottlemyer and Thomas R. Frantz were also reappointed to the board by McAuliffe.
“With Karen and Jim, we welcome loyal members of the family home,” William & Mary President Taylor Reveley said in a news release. “Both are devoted William & Mary people, with strong commitments to the progress of alma mater.”
Schultz, of Wihchester, is a 1975 graduate of William & Mary and is a professor at Shenandoah University. She received a doctorate from Virginia Tech and a master’s in business administration from Shenandoah University.
Schultz currently serves on the Virginia Governor’s Advisory Board for Service and Volunteerism and the Board of Trustees, Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury.
Hixon, of Virginia Beach, is a member of the college’s class of 1979 and works as executive vice president for law and corporate relations at Norfolk Southern Corporation, where he has worked since 1985. He previously served as a partner in the Vienna, Va. law firm of Soutzos & Pierson.
Stottlemyer, of Oak Hill, graduated from William & Mary in 1985 and currently serves on the boards of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the Inova Health System, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, Virginia Commerce Bank and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. He was first appointed to the board in 2011 and has served as BOV rector since 2013.
Frantz, of Virginia Beach, was first appointed to the board in 2011 and graduated fromWilliam & Mary in 1970. He currently serves as chairman of the board for Williams Mullen, a Richmond-based law firm and lobbying group.
Schultz and Hixon will replace current BOV members Pete Snyder and Leigh Pence, who were not reappointed.
“We owe enormous thanks to Pete and Leigh for their dedication to William & Mary while on the Board of Visitors,” Reveley said in a news release. “Their ties to alma mater are strong and abiding.”
Stottlemyer, Frantz, Pence and Snyder were all appointed to the board for the first time in 2011 by then-Gov. Bob McDonnell.
The members of the 17-person board are appointed by the governor to serve four-year terms.
