A house in the City of Williamsburg suffered “significant” damage Thursday from a blaze that took firefighters about 10 minutes to control.

One resident was in her home in the 500 block of Shaindel Drive off Merrimac Trail when she heard the smoke detector sound off, said Eric Stone with the Williamsburg Fire Department.

Stone said the resident called 911 at around 12:25 p.m., and firefighters arrived within four minutes to find smoke visible from the outside and a fire on the second floor of the home.

It took about 10 minutes to get the fire under control, and Williamsburg, James City County and York County firefighters left the scene after a little more than an hour.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Stone said. The resident has been displaced from her home for the time being.

No one was injured during the incident.
