Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation will begin paving part of Lakeside Drive on Saturday.
The road is expected to be closed to traffic between Yorkville Road and Old Lakeside Drive from Saturday morning through Thursday as long as the weather permits crews to work.
Through traffic will be detoured to Dare Road and local access will be maintained.
Signs are currently in place on Route 17 and Dare Road to warn drivers of the closure.
VDOT spokesperson Jennifer Gwaltney said drivers should expect potential delays and use extreme caution while driving in the area where crews are working.
The pavement is part of the Lakeside Drive Improvements Project, which began in July 2013. The $7 million project includes adding turn lanes at intersections and paving shoulders, curbs and gutters and storm drains in an effort to mprove traffic flow through the Lakeside Drive corridor.
