For the sixth year in a row, WYDaily readers showed off their creativity for writing Holiday Haiku.
This year garnered submissions from many Holiday Haiku regulars, but also from a new crop of participants who helped make 2014 the most successful year for entries in the competition.
Reading all the submissions has become a favorite tradition at our offices, so we thank you all for taking the time to participate.
And now onto our 2014 winner ….
Congratulations to Vickie Noel! Her haiku invoked both humor and nostalgia, garnering the most votes from the staff in our WYDaily/Tide Radio office. Noel’s first-place finish wins her a gift basket from Yankee Candle.
Oh ugly sweater
A Christmas wonder of wow
Beautiful on you
Our second-place prize, a Yankee Candle, goes to Donna Gettings Apperson for her humorous take on what happens to gingerbread men who find their way to the eggnog.
Gingerbread men ran
And got into the eggnog
Lampshade hat men now
Our staff members enjoyed so many of the submissions, which ranged from silly to sweet to serious, as some readers found inspiration in current events. Here are some of the haiku that received votes. Enjoy!
