Breaking: Motorist Dead after Being Shot, Crashing Into House Off Ironbound Road

 

WYD-11.7.2014James City County Police are investigating a shooting that led to a motorist crashing into a home Friday night.

Police said the victim, a black male, suffered from a gunshot wound before he crashed into the back of a home in the 300 block of Carriage Road in Ironbound Square Park.

The homeowner, who was asleep at the time, was awakened by the sound of gunshots and the vehicle crashing into the home.

Police first received a call about a shot fired around 8:05 p.m., then shortly after received another call about a vehicle crashing into a residence, James City County Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said.

Police responded to the scene at 8:12 p.m. and transported the driver to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He has yet to be identified, Rubino said.

Newport News Police and Virginia State Police also responded to the scene with dogs to search the area for any possible suspects.

Rubino said there are no suspects at this time.

The victim was alone in the vehicle,  he said, and the home sustained minor damage.

At least six police vehicles, four fire trucks and one ambulance were on the scene between 8:30 and 9 p.m.

A tow truck arrived at the scene at around 8:45 p.m.

Just after 11:30 p.m. Rubino said the area remained an active crime scene.
