york poquoson sheriffThe York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is investigating several residential break-ins that have occurred around Tabb starting July 17.

The first incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. July 17 on the 400 block of Birkdale Court in the Royal Cloven subdivision within Coventry. A resident was in his or her home and heard someone inside the house.  From a bedroom door, the resident saw an approximately 6-foot male with curly hair wearing red sweat pants and a black T-shirt, according to a post on the YPSO Facebook page.

Entry to the house was made by forcing open a back door. An iPad was stolen. Witnesses in the area described seeing several males running from the residence and leaving in a white four-door car, possibly a Honda.

At around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, a resident was in his garage on the 100 block of Lilburne Way in the Lilburne Meadows subdivision of Coventry when he heard someone trying to open the garage door. He called 911 and heard the alarm on his vehicle in the driveway activate. He looked outside and saw someone running down the street, according to the post. Nothing was taken.

At around 1 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of Militia Court in the Patriot Village subdivision, a male in a house heard glass break. He went downstairs to investigate and saw a brick had been thrown through a window. Nobody got inside. Investigators believe the incident is an attempted burglary, according to the post.

At around 2:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Blevins Run in the Greenlands Subdivision, a resident in bed woke up when she thought she heard glass breaking. She thought it could have been a dream and waited several minutes. She heard someone walking around in the house and called 911.

She opened the bedroom door and called out. She then heard someone run out of the house. A window next to a door had been broken with a pipe wrench, which was found on scene lodged in the window. A black Maglite flashlight and a small fire extinguisher were found on the ground next to an open garage door, according to the post.

The woman heard a vehicle with a loud muffler leave the area shortly after calling 911. Deputies searching the neighborhood found a blue purse in a neighbor’s flower bed. A cordless drill was missing from the woman’s garage, and she believed her vehicle was rummaged through, according to the post.

At about 1 a.m. Wednesday, a resident was in bed in her house on the 100 block of Tuckahoe Trace in Running Man. He heard a noise downstairs and went to check on her kids, who were asleep in bed. She then went back to bed.

A short time later, she heard glass breaking. She called out and woke up her visiting parents before calling 911. She heard more glass breaking and then heard someone running and cars speeding off.

A neighbor saw several people with flashlights running from the victim’s garage toward a light green sport utility vehicle or crossover and a dark sedan with a loud muffler parked on Tuckahoe Trace near Victory Boulevard. The burglars were hollering “go, go, go,” according to the post.

The windows on the right and left sides of the front door were broken, and a brick was found on the porch and in the living room. A window was also broken in the garage. Nothing was missing.

Anyone who hears glass breaking or suspicious noises and thinks someone could possibly be in the home is encouraged to call 911 immediately, according to the post. Anyone with information on the burglaries and attempted burglaries is asked to call Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
