A Merchants Square destination is set to close its doors.
G.Bates of Williamsburg will cease operations at the end of the summer.
Store manager Connie Mincks said the death of the store’s owner and proprietor Gail Bates precipitated the closing. Mincks said the store would likely close by late August or early September.
G. Bates specializes in home and garden furnishings and ladies fashion.
Marina Ashton, director of commercial properties for Merchants Square, was unavailable for comment regarding the potential replacement businesses.
G. Bates is the third store in Merchants Square to close in less than a year. In January, the Toymaker of Williamsburg closed after 48 years of operation, 45 of which were at the Duke of Gloucester Street location. Colonial Williamsburg’s Everything Williamsburg store filled the former Toymaker spot in April.
Last month, Massey’s Camera Shop closed after 41 years in business.
