The Stryker Building replacement project has an updated timetable for completion.

At the Williamsburg City Council meeting Thursday, architects David Stemann and Edwin Pease presented an updated design for the proposed Stryker Center, along with projected dates for milestones in the project’s construction.

The city’s Architectural Review Board conditionally approved the updated design at its meeting Tuesday. Pease said the next step, site development, would begin around Aug. 11.

The razing of the Stryker Building would begin Aug. 14, Pease said. A rough timeline for the project released in January had the building’s demolition scheduled for April or May.

The city’s Planning Commission will consider the Stemann-Pease design at its meeting Aug. 20. The ARB must also approve the materials to be used in the building’s construction. Permit requests can be submitted the day after the Planning Commission’s approval of the project. Pease said he expected all permit approvals to be accepted by Aug. 29.

Pease said the building pad was projected to be completed by Oct. 16. The building pad is the point in the project when demolition, topsoil removal, compacted backfill, utilities and sitework are complete to allow excavation for footings. At that point, construction on the new building can commence.

Construction time for the building is projected to last 12 months.
