WJCC Announces Valedictorians, Salutatorians for Class of 2014

The Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools announced the names of its 2014 valedictorians and salutatorians in a news release Monday.

Jamestown High School’s Margaret Fox, Lafayette High School’s Matthew DiMarcantonio and Warhill High School’s Kalen Clifton were honored as valedictorians of the three schools’ classes of 2014. Matthew Cullom, Thomas Baker and Mary Charlotte Clayton-Kastenholz were the schools’ salutatorians, respectively.

In addition to their graduation honors, the students also received multiple academic and athletic scholarships and national distinctions.

Fox received the WJCC Foundation SunTrust Bank Scholarship and was a National Merit Commended Student. Cullom received the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club David Pickeral Memorial Scholarship, Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, and was a National Merit Commended Student.

DiMarcantonio received the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Chapter of the National Honor Society Scholarship, AP Scholar Award with Distinction, Jefferson Scholars Finalist Scholarship, WJCC Community Scholarship Fund, and Monarch Bank Scholarship. He was also offered scholarships at Ferrum College and the College of William & Mary.

Baker, a National Merit finalist, earned the Rockwell Collins Scholarship, AP Scholar Award with Distinction, Colonial Williamsburg Fife and Drums Scholarship, WJCC Community Scholarship Fund, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Scholarship.

Clifton was honored with the WJCC Scholarship Fund-Drake Family Foundation and National Achievement Scholarship Program. She was also offered scholarships at Christopher Newport University, University of Virginia, College of William & Mary, Randolph-Macon College, Duke University, Davidson College, Johns Hopkins University, University of Richmond and Vanderbilt University.

Additionally, the six students received numerous honor cords and other high school academic awards.

Commencement exercises for all three high schools were held June 14 at William & Mary Hall.
