york poquoson sheriffA  York County couple is facing several felony charges after they allegedly broke into an ABC store and stole hundreds of dollars worth of liquor while their young children were home alone for several hours.

Deputies from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office responded to the ABC store in the Village Square at Kiln Creek Shopping Center at about 3:20 a.m. April 14 after receiving a report of an alarm. During their inspection of the business, they found that someone had entered the store through a back door, YPSO Lt. Dennis Ivey said.

The deputies then conducted a canvass of nearby neighborhoods, where they found 51-year-old Gregory R. Edward and 28-year-old Elizabeth A. Pruitt. Ivey said deputies found 15 bottles of high-end liquor worth more than $700 in the couple’s possession.

The investigation later revealed their children, ages 8, 5 and 3, were left home alone for several hours while the alleged thefts occurred, Ivey said.

Both Edward and Pruitt face three counts of child neglect, one count of conspiracy to commit a felony, one count of possession of burglary tools, one count of wearing a mask in a public place, one count of grand larceny, one count of breaking and entering to commit a felony and one count of conspiring to commit larceny. All the charges are felonies.
