Dr. Jeff Carroll, currently vice principal at Lafayette High, will fill the role as Warhill High School principal for the 2013-14 school year.
The Williamsburg-James City County School Board approved Carroll’s new position at its meeting Tuesday.
“He brings to the position [an] impressive instructional leadership background coupled with strong commitment to students, families and teachers that will serve the Warhill community well,” wrote Superintendent Steven Constantino in an email to Warhill staff.
Carroll has a bachelor’s in Soviet and east European studies from Yale University, a master’s in educational leadership, foundations and policy from the University of Virginia and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
He currently is vice principal at Lafayette High School and, prior to that, was principal at J. Blaine Blayton Elementary School. Carroll has had experience in several other vice principal and principal positions at a number of Virginia elementary and middle schools throughout his career. According to his resume, the principal position at Warhill will be his first time leading at the high school level. Carroll also worked as a teacher between 1991 and 2000.
Carroll succeeds Dan Fields, who announced his departure in early May citing family considerations. Fields first took the position as principal on an interim basis in the fall of 2010 then accepted the permanent post at Warhill in May 2011.
