A Williamsburg-James City County grand jury has indicted a man for a sexual assault alleged to have taken place in November.
Steve Benedict Casper, 22, was charged after he allegedly strangled and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman at a party in November at a James City County residence. He allegedly prevented her from leaving the room for a time, but the victim then bit him and fled the residence, said Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department.
The victim did not require hospitalization. She did not live at the residence.
Casper, now a Centreville resident, was living at the James City County residence at the time of the incident. He was arrested Wednesday and is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond.
Police charged him with abduction, rape, forcible sodomy, attempted forcible sodomy, strangulation, sexual battery and three counts of object sexual penetration.
